When the larger and heavier Mk2 was launched, the Golf GTI needed more power to compete so VW created a 16-valve version. The example modelled was purchased new by Berkshire based paint-sprayer Ray Partner who used it as his everyday transport until 2007, clocking up over 140,000 miles.
A late model example, it is fitted with all the options available at the time including larger brakes, electric windows, Montreal alloy wheels and PAS. Ray has won numerous concours championships with the car including the prestigious Stanford Hall VW Show Super Class in 2006 and 2012.
This remarkably original car has also been featured on Top Gear and in many magazines – Ray now only uses it for classic car events.
