To celebrate Radio 1’s 25th birthday in 1992, Peugeot produced 25 black ‘1FM’ limited edition 205 GTIs to raise money for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre. Their £17,000 price included a £5,000 donation to the charity and each car’s limited edition number was on a brass plaque under the driver’s door catch.
This Corgi Collector Club model is 205 GTI ‘1FM’ number 8, which belongs to enthusiast Ian Helme from South Wales. He bought the car in October 2004 after it had been stored in a barn for five years. It had been stolen and recovered and during this process lost many of its ‘1FM’ features, although the brass identification plaque had survived.
Ian has painstakingly searched out all the missing parts, including the stereo which he sourced from a yacht, and the interior from ‘1FM’ number 21 which had been written off in an accident. He completed number 8’s restoration to full ‘1FM’ specification in time for the Pugfest show of 2009. It was featured in an episode of The Used Car Roadshow in 2006.
